The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest

Synopsis of Saturday Morning Show

With the addition of a comely new teenage girl sidekick and the revamping of the chiseled features of the entire cast, the Jonny Quest of the 90's was born.

Alternately known as Jonny Quest: The Real Adventures and Jonny Quest: The New Adventures, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest saw the return of the characters from the original 1960's Jonny Quest, placed in a more modern setting. This time Jonny, Hadji, Dr. Quest, Race Bannon, and new addition Jessie, armed with all sorts of high-tech devices, had to escape danger in the real world and in the virtual reality “Questworld.”

13-year-old Jonny Quest was a bright, athletic, extremely resourceful kid, which came in handy when he needed to escape from perilous situations. He had a close relationship with his dad, Dr. Benton Quest, and a tight bond with his family’s bodyguard, Race Bannon. Jonny’s best friends were a spiritual Indian boy named Hadji and Race’s daughter, Jessie. Yapping pet dog Bandit had his part trimmed down for this version, but he made his presence known when he did show up.

Although the new Hanna-Barbera series introduced a few changes from the original show (Jonny had clearly been working out), the premise was still very similar. Computer whiz Jonny, along with Hadji and Jessie, explored brave new worlds while battling evildoers, all through the resources of Dr. Quest's "Quest Foundation." The intrepid doctor and Race Bannon often joined the kids on their adventures.

One major difference between the new series and its predecessor was the inclusion of a segment called “Questworld,” a 3-D virtual reality world invented by Dr. Quest, where Jonny and company managed to get into just as much trouble as in the real world. Once inside “Questworld"—which was accessible via virtual reality headsets—the gang was forced to solve puzzles, locate hidden objects, battle villains, and escape danger in order to survive. The league of baddies opposing the crew included Jeremiah Surd, Ezekial Rage, and Dr. Zin.

Created for Turner Broadcasting System's fledgling Cartoon Network, the show got a boost in its premiere by simultaneous airings on sister stations TBS and TNT. The added exposure helped The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest manage a successful 65-episode run on The Cartoon Network, along with multiple seasons of reruns.
